Autumn is a time when we like to reach for candles, including scented ones. An interesting alternative are fireplaces in which tea lights heat up scented wax - such scented fireplaces are also a decoration that decorates our living rooms or bedrooms. The offer on the market of ready-made fireplaces is huge, but we, of course, encourage you to make a scented fireplace yourself. How to make a DIY scented fireplace? What can it be made of and how to prepare a scented fireplace from polymer plaster?
When preparing a DIY scented fireplace, it is important to remember that the components will be subjected to high temperatures. In addition, the fireplace must be made of non-flammable elements. A tin of tomatoes or sliced pineapple in syrup will work perfectly in this role. All you need to do is cut out the frame and, using a nail or screws, cut the appropriate number of holes and then decorate the tin, e.g. with decopuage - in this case, it is necessary to use the appropriate distances between the walls so that they are away from the heater.
A fragrance fireplace can also be made from a wooden stand with a wire hanger on which to hang the wax cup. Two holes need to be drilled in the cup for the element on which you will hang it - a decorative chain will be ideal here. The wooden base should be treated with a fireproof wood preservative. The best saucer to hold the tea light is the one from the cup.
Another idea for making a DIY scented fireplace is to use a jar for this purpose and paint it in the colours of your choice - this way the tea light heating the wax will give off a coloured light. Then we have to place the wax on a stand at a certain distance from the jar, so that the candle is not cut off from oxygen. Such a wax stand can again be made from a wooden base (on which we place the jar) with a wire arm. On this we can hang an espresso cup (after drilling holes in it) or a small decorative tin - the kind in which we sometimes buy small portions of loose tea or cosmetics. Of course, everything should be colour-coordinated or painted and properly protected. A mug in the shape of a small cauldron will also work well - these can be purchased online or in home furnishing and decoration shops, especially in the run-up to Halloween.
We, of course, encourage you to make a scented fireplace from polymer plaster - fireproof A-STONE polymer gypsum will work perfectly for this purpose. How to make a scented fireplace from polymer plaster?
The first, and in fact perhaps the biggest challenge, will be preparing the mould for the casting - here you will learn how to make a silicone mould for castingto be able to make an original, unique fragrance fireplace from polymer plaster.
Once we have a mould, the appropriate plaster and dyes, if we want to use such, we will use the plaster calculatorto calculate the quantities of gypsum, water and pigments needed for the casting. If you want to additionally decorate the fireplace with other decorative elements, line the mould with them before pouring the casting compound into it. These can include coffee, small beads, confetti and other particles - the important thing is that they are dry. When preparing the mass, remember to add the gypsum to the water, and never in the reverse order. When mixing the ingredients of the mass, try not to let it become aerated - air bubbles spoil the whole effect and may make the polymer gypsum fireplace not so durable. If you want to use pigments for polymer gypsum, we first mix it with the resin, i.e. the liquid component of the A-STONE gypsum, and then add the powder to the whole. We do this slowly, mixing the whole thing thoroughly.
Once the mould has been poured with plaster, we wait at least 90 minutes before removing the cast from the mould. If our fireplace will have small openwork elements, it is worth waiting longer. Leave the cast to harden completely for 24 hours - after which time it can be impregnated, varnished or painted.
A handmade scented fireplace is a ready recipe for a unique gift or decoration for our home. We will enjoy not only the effect itself, but also the creative process.
