Christmas decorations made from polymer plaster - what Christmas decorations can you make?

The first Christmas advertisements, the first Christmas gingerbread men in the shops and the first Christmas decorations herald the coming of Christmas. And although there is still a lot of time left, some of us are slowly starting to plan: what to buy for a present, what to prepare for Christmas Eve or Christmas dinner, and how to decorate the Christmas table this year? Such early preparations have a lot of advantages - they give you the opportunity to hunt out a lot of interesting things at discount prices, test new recipes or make Christmas decorations with your own hands. We will, of course, focus today on the latter element of Christmas preparations and look for ideas for Christmas decorations made of polymer plaster. We will also give you tips on how to make them. Enjoy!

Christmas tree decorations in polymer plaster

The Christmas tree, although taken from pagan traditions, is one of the most recognisable symbols of Christmas. Decorated Christmas trees stand in our homes, in gardens, in old markets in cities and towns, in schools, offices, shopping malls, but also in churches. Everyone has their own idea of a Christmas tree - modest with ornaments in one or two colours, richly decorated with decorations in one style or a mish-mash. No matter which Christmas tree we like best, it is worth decorating it with at least one new decoration every year - for luck.

This does not mean that we have to buy a whole set of new baubles or chains every time. One new bauble is enough - some people collect themed baubles (e.g. from their favourite films), and loved ones are happy to give such baubles as gifts. Making such a decoration yourself is also a good way. Every year it can be something different - a beautiful star, a Christmas tree top, a new chain or baubles made using different techniques. Decopuage baubles and, of course, polymer plaster baubles are an interesting idea. There are even ready-made silicone moulds available on the internet in the shape of small Christmas trees, baubles and bells - perfect for making Christmas decorations for your tree from polymer plaster. We can also prepare such silicone moulds ourselves (read How to make a silicone mould for casting yourself at home?).

How to make Christmas tree ornaments from polymer plaster?

To make Christmas tree ornaments from polymer plaster we will need:

First of all, we will need to calculate the proportions of the ingredients to prepare the casting compound. To do this we will use gypsum calculatorwhere you will also find tips on how to calculate everything exactly. With the necessary data, we prepare the products - weigh out the necessary amount of gypsum and the required amount of water and pigments and proceed to combine them. Remember to always add gypsum to water, never the other way round. We mix the whole thing thoroughly, trying to do it in such a way that we do not get air bubbles. This is also the moment when we can add dry decorative particles such as glitter, confetti, pearls or beads. Finally, it's a good idea to tap the bowl on all sides - this will get rid of any unwanted bubbles. Now it's time to pour the casting compound into the silicone moulds. Leave it to solidify (the time indicated on the plaster package) or for 24 hours, after which you can continue to work on the casting with the impregnating agent for polymer gypsum or polymer gypsum varnish. We can also paint polymer plaster Christmas tree ornaments if we have opted out of using dyes.

Christmas table decorations in polymer plaster

The Christmas Eve and Christmas table is the centre of the gathering with loved ones and family. The Christmas setting is really important here, so we take care of a beautiful tablecloth or table runner, beautiful Christmas tableware, but also table decorations that will help to build a wonderful festive atmosphere. First of all, it is worth finding a place for candles, which of course we can make ourselves - a polymer plaster wrapper and a wax insert, such as soy wax. We can also make a Christmas reed stand from polymer plaster. This will have the advantage of being able to use the base itself in future years, and changing the Christmas decoration itself. Use conifer branches, rowan branches, bows, small baubles or mistletoe. There are, by the way, many more elements that can be included in our DIY Christmas decorations - pinecones, nuts, candies, orange slices are just further examples.

Another original Christmas table decoration made of polymer plaster will be a runner - a kind of base for candles or other decorations. Sometimes similarly, runners imitate wood, and we can make one from polymer plaster in any colour or style. A polymer plaster platter can also join the Christmas decorations - be sure to use elements in its decoration that relate to the Christmas style. This can be a red-green colouring with fine glitter, which can be achieved by mixing pigments, or a hand-painted Christmas tree on the finished centrepiece. It all depends on our ideas and artistic ability.

Other Christmas decorations in polymer plaster

We already have some ideas for Christmas tree ornaments and table decorations made of polymer plaster. So let's look for inspiration for other Christmas decorations. Wreaths that we hang on doors are becoming increasingly popular - here we will primarily use conifer branches, but we can use small polymer plaster baubles to decorate them. Of course, as one of several decorative elements. We can also make a mistletoe holder or a Christmas garland holder out of plaster. A festive pot for the star of Bethlehem - a flower that is often hosted in our homes at Christmas - will also be interesting.

Christmas decorations made of polymer plaster can also be used to decorate windows, doors or mirrors, and if you have a balcony or garden, in addition to the popular lights you can use polymer plaster figurines - you can make a Father Christmas figurine, a reindeer or the Star of Bethlehem. For those who love the festive atmosphere, inspiration can be found in shop windows or American films.

When planning the Christmas decoration of your home, including the use of polymer plaster ornaments, it is advisable to plan everything carefully - the colour scheme and each decorative element. Often, less is more, and the most important thing is that the decoration should appeal to you and your family. Have a great Christmas makeover!
