Polymer gypsum is a versatile material that is gaining popularity in the world of interior decoration. Its lightweight, durable and easy-to-work-with properties make it an ideal choice for those looking to incorporate unique and stylish elements into their homes. Polymer gypsum, although more widely known for its excellent properties that DIY enthusiasts use, is also perfect for design. Today, we'll present three creative ideas for using polymer plaster in interior decoration that can transform your space.
One of the most striking ways to use polymer plaster is to create decorative wall panels and stucco. These elegant pieces can add character to any room, from the living room to the bedroom. With polymer plaster, you can make a variety of designs, from classic rosettes and mouldings to modern, geometric forms.
To make decorative wall panels or stucco we need HandiCast polymer gypsum (65 MPa), water and optionally pigments. We will also need a mould made of silicone, which we will use to prepare the appropriate shapes. When preparing such a mould, it is, of course, necessary to take into account all the architectural elements of which the stucco or the single panel will be a part. When measuring the surface, the height, width and parameters such as the height of the skirting boards should be taken into account.
By means of polymer gypsum calculator calculate the exact amount of water and gypsum you will need to make the cast in the mould you prepared earlier. Remember that you always add the gypsum to the water - never the other way round. Once the gypsum has been added, mix it all up thoroughly so that no lumps are formed. It is a good idea, especially with larger quantities of the mixture, to use polymer gypsum mixerThis will result in a perfectly smooth mass in less time, reducing the risk of aeration of the mixture. It is through the aeration of the gypsum that bubbles form in the products, which we absolutely want to avoid in stucco or polymer gypsum panels - find out, how to avoid unsightly holes in a plaster cast. If an interesting colour effect is desired, the colouring agent of choice is added to the finished gypsum-water mixture - this is already taken into account when calculating the amount of gypsum and water.
The setting time is between 40 and 90 minutes, until which time the mould should not be moved. In order for the cast to dry completely, it is necessary to wait no less than 24 hours, during which time the gypsum hardens in the deepest layers of the cast. Only after this time is it recommended to continue working with the prepared panel or stucco.
Such a design will not only add elegance to your interior, but also allow you to personalise the space according to your own tastes. Modern classic, vintage, glamour, palace or romantic styles are styles in which stucco is almost an obligatory architectural element. The use of wall panels is even broader - they can be successfully used in modern interiors, as well as in Scandinavian, Japanese, Provençal or boho styles and in classic interiors.
Mirrors are a must-have decorative element in every home. In addition to their obvious utilitarian functions, they have an aesthetic function - depending on the shape of the mirror and the decoration of the frame itself, they emphasise the character of the interior. Mirrors are also excellent at optically enlarging small interiors - owners of bedsits and other small flats can gain a lot by skilfully using mirrors to create the illusion of a wider or longer hallway, kitchen, bathroom or room.
Framed photos, on the other hand, are a personal way to express ourselves and create a homely focal point. Photos with loved ones, photos of interesting places we have visited or family photos of our children growing up add warmth to interiors and make us think of the greatest moments whenever we look at them. By making mirror frames or photo frames from polymer plaster, we gain another advantage - the design elements of our home will be one-of-a-kind and exactly the way we want them, not the manufacturer.
How do you make frames and mirrors from polymer plaster? In the same way as other casts are made, including the previously mentioned panels and stucco. First, purchase or make silicone moulds yourself, then prepare a mixture of gypsum and water, optionally adding colouring agents. After pouring the mould, wait no less than one day before using the cast to frame a mirror or photographs. Large frames are made from the same plaster as the panels and stucco; smaller frames can also be made from A-STONE polymer gypsum. For an even more interesting effect, decorative fillers - such as coffee beans, metal or rock powders - can be used in addition to the dyes. It is important to remember that any such decorative filler should be dry when added to the mixture.
The interiors of our homes are spaces that we want to make not only functional, but also aesthetically pleasing. Decorative bowls fit perfectly into both of these goals, combining practicality with designer charm. Their use in the home is extremely versatile - they can be used to hold keys in the hallway, small coins, fruit and vegetables in the kitchen or small toiletries in the bathroom. How we use this designer accessory is entirely up to us.
Depending on the material they are made of and the style, they can give a room a variety of characters - from modern and minimalist to classic and rustic. Handmade bowls are particularly interesting. Of course, we urge you to make such bowls out of polymer plaster - thanks to the possibilities this material provides us with and the additives we can use when making them, polymer plaster bowls are sure to be a unique addition to the home, which at the same time serves a functional purpose.
How do you make a polymer plaster bowl? Obviously in a similar way to the previously discussed design elements. First of all, we need to prepare a silicone mould - either make it ourselves or buy it before we start casting. We can use any gypsum to make the bowl - if we want a terrazzo effect, SnowCast polymer gypsum (Lastryko) will be the best choice. Depending on the type of decoration, you will need the right dyes or additional fillers to create a unique colouring and design.
Here we also hint that, depending on the surface of the silicone company, the surface of the polymer plaster bowl will be smooth or matt. You can also use additives that will slightly change the properties and appearance of the polymer plaster bowl:
Polymer gypsum is a material that we can use for many interesting decorations as well as utilitarian objects. Thanks to the properties of our gypsum, these objects will be durable, and after impregnation, they will gain water-repellent properties. We encourage you to test dyes and various additives, so that you, your household members and your guests will be delighted with the result.
